About Me
Born in South Boston, Mass. Moved to Long Beach, CA when he was 8. Rob Alex is a singer/songwriter. . . recording engineer . . blah blah blah. Began playing drums at age 12 and guitar at age 14. Listened heavily to Beatles/Beach Boys/Carole King/CSNY/James Taylor/Motown and everything else. Played around Southern California for a bit sharing the stage/warehouse party with numerous bands. . . Janes Addiction/Fishbone/Red Hot Chili Peppers/Thelonius Monster/Sublime to name a few.

Moved to Atlanta in 1990 from Long Beach, California with a band whose name is unimportant. No, really. (Rain On Monday . . . Yeah, we never heard of you either) Rob was the guitar player. Their manager was Dale Ossman Warren. He was (died in '93) the nephew of Raynoma Gordy of Motown fame. Dale was an orchestrator and arranger for Motown and Stax records in the 60's and 70's. He took them under his wing and molded them to be the backing band for his recording sessions. ROM also had two albums of material set to be recorded with Warner/Electra/Asylum. Things happen . . .

Band split up and Rob stayed with Dale in Atlanta . . . got involved in a recording studio called Lakestar in Norcross, GA as an engineer. Dale was also grooming him as a solo artist. That was an interesting notion considering Rob had never written a complete song before then let alone sing lead. Rob worked with members of Parliment, Slave, Brick, New Birth . . . basically all of the old R&B friends of Dale coming around rehashing the old days. Rob gained valuable experience sitting in and running tape (yes, tape . . . it wasn't that long ago c'mon). Leaving out tons of stuff . . . anyway.

Rob founded Rocket Surgery in 1995. . . A power pop three-piece featuring Rob on guitar and sharing lead vox with the bass player. He quit Rocket Surgery citing good ole personal differences after getting a slot in the Ticketmaster Showcase and creating a little buzz. Rob then got with ex-Posterboy drummer Chad Booher to record some solo work. That evolved into Sonomama. Their first show was with Drivin and Cryin at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA. One of Rob's songs got into the top 3 out of over 15,ooo entries at Garageband.com's battle for a $250,000 recording contract based on random listener reviews. They recorded a version of "Band on the Run" for a local Tribute to Paul McCartney CD. Chad moved unannounced to Nashville to pursue studio work.

The band was over after a few gigs with a fill in drummer. Rob then did hired gun work playing bass with the Tea Leaves and Lickity Split. . . .guitar with Cord Stone and Field Trip . . . a few shows here and there. . . recording bands.
Currently writing and recording new material and am looking for like minded players to perform with.
