born in wanganui, New Zealand phil became intrigued with the arts at a young age. His first band was a rockabilly three piece doing elvis presley sun record songs. Then a bit later Phil joined a 9 piece showband playing jazz standards and popular tunes, as a rythym guitarist and in a very short time took over as the lead guitarist. Phil was active in the theatre working alongside actors and musicians, and eventually left his hometown for the big smoke of Auckland to further persue his music, as well as doing some commercials with a local agency. At the age of 17 Phil landed the job of playing guitar with the legendary Tui Teka who was a household name in New Zealand at that time. Phil also became a backing musician to many of the stars, and got to play alongside names like Joe walsh, Ron laprette, ex commodores, Maurice Greer legendary drummer from Human Instinct, and many others. Phil developed a passion for good music and a standard of excellence. He had an uncle who was a pro drummer and who worked alongside many big names who inspired Phil to work tirelessly to be the best musician he could posibly be. Unfortunately Clive Cavanagh died too early, in his life from emphesemia, but Phil has not given up the persuit. He has worked with so many different artists some famous and others not. He has recorded on numerous albums and played guitar on a 14 song album with the Tauranga Big Band where Phil was living before relocating to Atlanta. During Phils short time in the USA he has managed to meet and play with some great musicians both on stage and in the studio. Phil has played classical, rock, blues, soul, funk, jazz, reggae, latin, country, gospel, hip-hop and worship both traditional and contemporary. Phil is now living in marietta with his wife and is available for live shows, sessions, and private instruction in guitar, bass, and music theory.
