Profile Information

About Me
I am a bass player who specializes in blues, R&B, soul and classic rock. I am a groove oriented player who likes to "lock in" with the drummer to provide a solid platform on which to build.

Here is a brief Bio:
Van Started playing bass in 1977 with the legendary Atlanta band “Cool Breeze”, featuring Ritchie Kicklighter on guitar and Bill Sheffield on vocals.

In 1979, Van joined the North Carolina bar band “Daddy’s Money”, and toured extensively up and down the east coast.

In 1980 he returned to Atlanta to join with Bill Sheffield in forming the XL’s, a four-piece R&B band that had a strong local and regional following. Joining Bill and Van were Jeff Moseley on Keyboards and Peter Chakales on Drums. After a five year stint as bass player and manager, Van left the group and joined forces with T.K. Lively (drummer for Wet Willie), Will Alvarez (one time guitar player for Elvin Bishop), Carl (James Calvin) Yaun on vocals, Ken Rhyne on Harp, Rick Callahan on Guitar (both formerly in Daddy’s Money) and a four piece horn section to form “James Calvin and the Ultimates”.

In 1990 / 1991 Van and T.K. Lively formed the rhythm section of a band called “Rib Joint” which featured Jeff Carlisi and Max Carl of the famous southern rock band “38 Special”.

Between 1991 and 1999 Van was the regular bass player with the “Down to Earth Blues Band”, backing up the soul legend “Lotsa Poppa” every Monday night at Blind Willies, Atlanta’s predominant blues club.

The next few years were spent freelancing in Atlanta with several local acts including “the Tak Attack” featuring Tak Nakazawa on guitar and Sean O’Rourke (of “Sugarland” and Aquarium Rescue Unit fame) on drums.

2002 brought the reunion of several member of “Daddy’s Money” back together to form the “Ken Rhyne Band”, doing many original R&B and blues based songs. The KRB disbanded in 2006.

Since then, Van has been playing with the "Tomi Isobe Blues Band" featuring some of Atlanta's best known blues artists.

News Flash: The "Tak Attack" is getting back together with all of the original personnel. Should be hitting the clubs by summer of 2009.

New Energy Drink Club

Hi all,
I'm usually not one who goes in for energy drinks or multi level marketing schemes. This one is the exception to the rule. It is called "Efusjon". It is a truly healthy energy drink and also offers an opportunity to make substantial compensation for spreading the word about it to fellow musicians. A friend of mine turned me on to it and he's done very well in just a couple of months. The founders of this company include a former Microsoft exec and the founder of Facebook. There is going… Continue
