About Me
I left Northern California and moved to the Atlanta area in January 2007. I have been playing guitar for 44 years. I was a "road warrior" for 28 years. I am currently looking for weekend and studio work with established groups in the Atlanta Metro area. I can always be persuaded to play fulltime again. I am into smooth jazz, funk and blues. I have also played rock and a little country. My early influence was the Memphis STAX sound and got into Wes Montgomery and Howard Roberts around the same time.

Funk influences: James Brown, The Meters, Funkadelic, Tower of Power, Earth, Wind & Fire, etc.

Blues influences: B.B. King, Albert King, Little Milton, Johnny Taylor, Little Johnny Taylor, Bobby "Blue" Bland and others.

I currently listen to: Bob James, Fourplay(Lee & Larry), Dwight Sills, Peter White, Norman Brown, Jonathan Butler, Paul Brown, Chris Standerling, Brian Culbertson, Brian Simpson and others.

I started playing professionally in clubs in 1968. Have worked with and shared the stage with many big name performers. I just love to play, it never goes away. I am also a vocalist, singing both lead and background. I have my own equipment, both electric and acoustic guitars. I have also been involved with MIDI sequencing since 1986. I have earned the respect of many keyboardists in my sequencing abilities.

I have worked with: Jimmy Witherspoon, Etta James, Lowell Fulson, T-Bone Walker, Roger Collins, J.J. Jackson, The Whispers, The Ballads, Jesse James, Vernon Garrett and more.

I have shared the stage with: The Isley Brothers, The Chambers Brothers, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, Johnny Taylor, Billy Paul, Harry James & his Orchestra, El Chicano, Willy & Lester, Sonny Turner(The Platters) and more.

I have recently set out on my own as a solo guitarist performing in a "one-man-band" format. I generally play smooth jazz and produce a much bigger sound than that of a typical single performer. Recently, I have been providing background music for wine tasting events.

I am available to perform and provide music for any upcoming event(s) that your organization might be planning. Please feel free to contact me for more information and I will send you a CD sampler of myself. What you hear on the CD is what you will hear onstage. I’m sure you won't be disappointed.

Electric Guitars: 1969 Fender Telecaster, 1977 Gibson ES-335, 1980 Gibson ES-347, 1992 Charvel CX-592, 1996 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, 2005 Ibanez AG-75, 2008 Schecter C1 E/A.

Acoustic Guitars: 1973 Ovation Balladeer, 2006 Yamaha APX-5NA

Amps: 1968 Fender Twin Reverb w/original JBL D120's, 1973 MusicMan 212-65 w/original JBL D120's, 1996 Roland Blues Cube 60, 2008 Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue.

I got used to inserting everything a long time ago, it's not that bad. I haven't used recorded vocal tracks yet, but I plan to. I should have been doing that a long time ago. Problem is, I have NO falsetto. I use a Digitech VR. It's fine, but at tim…

I've been sequencing since '86. All the bands that I worked with since then played with tracks. W had a live drummer, guitarist(myself), a keyboardist who doubled on bass and three girls out front. We ALWAYS played with tracks until the group broke…

Yes Domingo. I have read your bio and it is incredible. I do not do a lot of gigs and am selective about them so that they are in places where it is "about the music." I will do more when I retire from my other job. I would love to meet a guitarist that is versatile with a jazz background. Like you, I also play a lot in a solo format. I like your description of sounding bigger than one man. When I play with my band, it is a trio format with bass and drums. My bass player is a wonderful guy that needs to cut back for personal reasons. I have been thinking about a guitarist instead as it offers the benefit of another lead type instrument and more versatility and solo options. Please check out some of my stuff and see if it sounds interesting to you. If so, it would be great to meet. My email is stech@michaelstechison.com and is usually best way to reach me.

Hi Domingo,
I am a drummer in Hampton....fairly close to you in Ellenwood. I listened to some of the tunes you have up on another site...love them! If you ever need a drummer, I hope you'll consider giving me a shout. I don't have any issues, no grand illusions of stardom.....I'd just like to play good music well with good people.
Take care and God Bless,
Joe Norman
