About Me
I've been playing professionally for 35 years. I am 49 years old, and I love the old R&B and jazz classics. I have been playing country however the past 7 years with David Ball out of Nashville. He had a couple of #1s in the late 90' and in 2002 with "Riding with Private Malone. "Thinking Problem" was his biggest hit (so far). We've had a great time, and it is a great group of "Nashville" players who have been doing it a LONG time. I'm a puppy compared to them, but, my gosh, I learned SO much from them (AND HAVE A LOT OF GOOD STORIES To TELL!!!!) We traveled a lot, all the continental US, Canada and Europe. I am one of the few musicians in the world that played Paris, France, and Paris, Texas in the same week! Anyway, I travel well, get along with almost anyone (ain't no egos under water) and I love to play my guitar. My stage gear is anything from a 22 watt tube amp (my preference) to a 80w Twin Reverb (/w/tube rectifier) I have played with countless musicians from Atlanta. I played 7 years all together with Sean O'Rourke w/ Mass Transit in Atlanta, and :Outta -Hand in Key West (more to come. hopefully!). I have also played with "Ice 9" (Curtis Mayfields back-up group), Pheobe Snow in New York (early 80s). In Atlanta, I have played with, on the same stage at the SAME time with these fine players, and they are : O'teil and Kofi Burbridge, Vince Gill,Barry Richmond, Jody Worrell, Craig Harbor, Jeff Sipe, Russ Rodgers, Dan Coy, Tom Grose,Nancee Kahler, Wally & Simon Carter, Edwin Williams, Sal Padillo, Michael Bastido, David Buice, Yon Rico Scott, Lebron (Porky) Scott, Buzz Amato, Steve McCraw, Brian Cole, Bobby Mobley, Barry Thrasher, Karl Probst, Randy Lewis (RIP), Col. Bruce Hampton (ret), Rick Julian, Jonathan Birchfield, plus many studio and "live dates" in Atlanta w/ Bo Diddley, Billy Paul, Slave, etc, when I was house guitarist for Ichebon Records for about a 2 years (until I moved to Key West).......... if I forgot to post your name, throw your name on my board. PLEASE........I respected all of my friends and peers from our days in the late 80s, early 90s.......and haven't played or seen you guys in over 20 years! Oh yeah, in Atlanta, I played 2 years with "Ice 9", an incredible fusion/jazz band led by Buzz Amato. I did about 3 years with "Mass Transit" (that's where Sean and myself hooked up.........STP!) then 8 years with "the Outta Hand Band" feauturing the only one-armed bass player I ever knew, my brother, Randy Lewis,(RIP). I have currently finished projects that included Chuck Leveal, Paul T Riddle and Jerry Eubanks (from MTB) with a group called "7Moore", as well as live recordings on the road with David Ball, soon to be released as soon as he finds a label! (His latest CD got pick of the week in "People Magazine, GREAT reviews by all the MAJOR country music critics, went to # 17 and then took a "nose-dive" off the charts.) This is telling me and us as musicians (because Davids CD is a GREAT country record, which was his intention when he started recording it,) but unless your 25 years old, look good in tight jeans & cowboy boots, "white" t-shirt, and let's not forget the legendary "Stetson" on your head, you might as well start writing great songs, or Nashville will slop you up like gravy on a bisquit.....it's not about the music, it's about the image. Which I am fully aware it's been that way since the birth of MTV, but it just isn't right. You could not pay me to move to Nashville. WAY too many "plastic" people. Kinda of like LA......but east of the Mississippi .......I can only hope that Atlanta, Charlotte, Charleston and Asheville did not follow suit........there are so many clubs to play, but, all in all, I can play anything you throw at me, I am a 'road dawg w/ no fleas', I don't drink or do drugs (except for MJ), I am EXTREMELY punctual, ( haven't missed or been late to a gig in my 35 years of doing this professionally!) I can give you a ton of references in Atlanta, New York, Charlotte and Nashville. This is what I do. If you are in need an extremely reliable guitar player with a love for music that probably rivals anyone you know? Please contact me: Bobby Gaines at : www.myspace.com/guitargaines.....or thru this site. Let's play!!! We'll have fun! You'll be glad you called! Thank you for your time. Bobby Gaines

Yo'. my fellow musicians in Atlanta and elsewhere!

Hey Guys and Gals, just want to let ya'll know David Ball will not be touring this year due to the hike in diesel fuel. This frees me up to freelance, and/or become a permanent part of your band. I play anything but rap and classical guitar, and can have your band sounding better than ever. If you are in need for a guitarist for your spring/summer/fall schedule, I'm your man. My resume would take up most of this page......so please contact me throuh this site, or go to www.myspace.com/guitargaines, and that will go in a little more in depth, and hopefully we can hook up and play. I'd love to hear from you. Bobby

WATTUP? ATLANTA!! Hey guys, just a note that gigs are slowly coming in. I've got a new rythym section (Tony Heatherly and Mark Burrell, Toy Caldwells old rythym section,) and we have possibilties of playing all the local clubs in the Upstate of South & North Carolina that are paying decent. We are fortunate that Tonys health took a turn for the better (diabetes)....he's lost a lot of weight and is playing and singing better than ever. Mark just sits in that pocket (very well, I might add), and it makes for a night of fun playing with such seasoned players. We have over 120 years of experience on the stage.........how can it NOT groove? Anyway, watch for us, "The Cat Daddys", at the Handlebar and Orange Peel sometime this summer, and hopefully we can pull together a gig in Hotlanta soon. If any club owners read this, and would be interested, get in touch with me through this sight, and we'll take it from there! Thanks again to Sean for this venue of players getting to contact each other, and all the people who have written in. Bobby Gaines
