Connecting Atlanta Musicians

This was sent to the recording group through email. As you can't reply to emails I reposted this.
"I have an old digi001 with protools LE 6.2. It does not recognize the m4a file format (or export mp3 file formats either).

Will upgrading to LE 6.4 resolve these issues?

Or do I have to do the obvious: upgrade all the hardware and software and the computer platform?

Thanks in Advance!

Michael"

6.2 nor 6.4 are set up to import m4a. The mp3 export codec has always been an add on.
The best way is to import m4a into another program and convert to wav or aiff. Same goes for mp3. I'm on PC so, Soundforge has been my go to program for that. But there are plenty of free convertors out there.
It's an extra step, but, it's better than a total upgrade.
Protools 7 still needs the codec for exporting to mp3.
6.4 and the 001 are very stable. While you get more midi stuff and a few more bells with 7, if your just cutting at home, I'd stay with 6.4. Which, by the way, is the last version of Protools available on the 001.
I went with Protools M and 7.1 through an 1814 and a Presonus Digimax LT. The cool thing about "M" is the ability to change interfaces.

Hope this helps

Thanks S,

I appreciate the insight. I'll pursue the conversion option.
