Perhaps for the time being we should stick with my original intention for this group which would concentrate more on the techniques and applications we use to collaborate online.

There are many different softwares and methodologies we can discuss and since some here have been collaborating for a number of years, I'm sure they can respond to questions that anyone new to these practices might have.

From my discussions with Marvin and his communication with drummer turned lawyer Mike Huey, writing is a touchy, personal thing that one
needs to feel comfortable with and entering into a situation with someone you're not familiar and completely at home with could be a disaster both musically and legally.

Yeah, there's got to be a way to make this easy enough that no one is scared off by the technical aspects.
Marvin has gotten some info from Mike Huey but I haven't gotten to it yet. It looked like a rather long email.

Yeah this could get really complicated and take the fun out of it- I guess
it would be by common consensus just how deep the agreement would be.

Interesting group! Thx for inviting.

Many times I have signed a "Music Talent Agreement" before a recording session started, that stated something to the affect of "Producer or author, or record company, owns all rights to any recorded material". Then there would also be a part about intellectual property... if there were ideas that resulted in an arrangement/composition change or inclusion, or whatever.. then there would need to be a separate agreement.

Its probably best to leave all agreements separate, and up to the parties involved, and just have some sort of "On-line Disclaimer" that takes the website out of it... if necessary. The site is just a place to meet/network...

With that said... if anyone needs keyboard parts to there songs... PICK ME!! I'll work cheap on your first song.. then if you like me.. we can agree on a fee for your next.... I can do any kind of keyboards.. any style.

On a side note, I would like to see some links to music business resources here... places to download contracts and other forms, etc.. that are related. Or if someone could just post that info for the rest of us.

Thx, Scott

Good point George. I just sort of hatched this idea for the group today and hadn't even thought it out that far yet.

Marv, say hello to Mike Huey for me if you talk to him.

I suppose an agreement of some sort would have to be a prerequisite as most of us are interested in finding new
cash flow sources. Everyone involved should benefit equally from any profit that might come from our collaboration. Which brings with it a whole new set of questions.
Keep the ideas coming Ya'll.

Hello all
I am following the threads and will jump in when I have some time. I think the online agreement that George mentioned is a good idea. I'll run that by Bryan and see if he has any knowledge of what is involved. He was head of licensing for Ichiban for years and may know some simple rule of thumb criteria that we can meet with a simple paragraph. If anybody knows (or is) a music biz lawyer, speak up. Off the top of my head, I am thinking that along the lines of what George mentioned, there can be an actual agreement that you have to opt into before you are allowed access to anybody's intellectual property. Aha - just remembered my friend and former drummer Mike Huey in LA - he had the law degree and bar membership, but is actually a publisher, so I'll also ask him what we need to do.

In that this is a Pro musicians site- what about possible copyright issues?

Maybe there would be some kind of mutual agreement among a group and a online form or terms we could all agree to ?

MIDI files are also an option for relating an idea you might want someone to try.

For readers, you could also send sheet music files as PDFs.
Many DAWs output manuscript and I believe Photoshop and a few other apps will convert them to PDF files.
