There is a place in Carrollton called the Lowell Opry House. We do a show there once a month and we played traditional country music. We draw the older crowd (over 40) and they love it. There is a $10.00 charge at the door and the band get 50%. We play dances at the Elk club and VFW in Anniston, Alabama when we are not at the Opry House. Not many places to go dance around Carrollton. I wish someone would open a good club here like the one you guys mentioned. I played on Stewart Ave. at the Nugget in Atlanta during the 70s and had a ball. Those places have disappeared and I miss them.

WELL I GUESS THAT'S THE PROBLEM IS LACK OF CREATIVITY WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING WANT YOU WANT HERE'S A EXAMPLE A LADY IN EATETON GA THOUGHT THERE NO WHERE TO GO DANCE TO COUNTRY MUSIC SO SHE WENT TO TAGGED A SOC .NET AND PUT UP A BLOG ON THERE AND DIG AND A FEW MORE SIGHT ASKING IF THERE WERE ANY ONE ELSE INTERESTED IN A REAL COUNTRY DANCE SPOT AND IF THE WOULD PAY TO GO TO A DANCE IF THEY COULD HAVE A DINNER AND DANCE AND HOW FAR THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO TRAVEL ON A FRI OR SAT IT TOOK ABOUT A MONTH BUT SHE HAD 800+ COMMITMENTS PRESENTED THEM TO A LOCAL CENTRAL 3 COUNTY AREA RESTAURANT OWNER AND A NEAR DEAD VFW CLUB RENTED IT AND THE RESTAURANT
OWNER HAD LIC, AND PERMITS AND SHE FOUND SOME BANDS THAT PLAYED WHAT THE CROWD WANTED NO FRIDAY SHE HAS DINNER AND A DANCE AND ADVERTISES ONE THE NET AND DRAWS 450 TO 700 PER WEEK AT $10.00 SINGLE $8.00 A COUPLE THEY EAT DRINK AND DANCE
FOR FOR HOURS AND THE BAND MAKE 65% AND THEY SPLIT THE REST AND EVERY ON IS HAPPY AND THE VFW SELLS CHEEP DRINK AND GET THERE MONEY ON DRINKS AND RENTING THE HALL THAT WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BUT SOME ONE HAS TO TAKE A CHANCE YEA I HATED THE ERRRRR-BAN COWBOW CRAP AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE WORKING AS A SIDE MAN WITH A NAME ARTIST AT THE TIME BUT THE NEW STUF HAS ITS PLACE WITH THE KIDDYS BUT THE 45 AND UPS DONT GO FOR THAT AND WANT SOME WERE TO DANCE

We all have a tendency to listen with our pocketbooks sometimes...lol
I love traditional country music but I also like some of todays country too, there are a few artist/songwriters that I really like. Not the teeage stuff but the few well written songs that make it thru to radio from time to time. It has really always been like this in a way...Remember the 80's country(drum machine central) and some of the songs were really pop country back then too. It goes through phases so at some point the "more traditional" sound will come back around. What we call traditional was pop to a lot of the eariler artist and so on and so forth.
Just my 2 cents.
Hopefully there will be some all country bars open up at some point. We just played a real country bar out in WY and it was great...The DJ played real country music when we were done and only during the last hour did he play any booty popin music...(mabye 5 songs) People stayed, danced and loved it...There ya go,it can work.It was a nice smokey, beer drinkin, whiskey shootin, pool playin, country music lovin kinda crowd...Yep,my kinda people for sure!!! None of this politically correct BS that has all but taken over the the clubs in most of the south and ATL. I MEAN A REAL HONKYTONK BAR!!!What a concept!!!

Peace,
Tom

I hear what you are saying Greg. People still like the old country stuff and will pay to hear it. I am with a traditional country band and we play a lot around Carrollton and across the line in Alabama. One problem that we have is that so many bands around here will play for no pay and that makes it hard on the guys who want to get paid for gigs.

Yeah Greg. I can dig what you're saying . Unfortunately there isn't much authentic country music being produced and displayed these days . People are programed to what they see on CMT etc. They lable it "country music" but we know the truth . Occasionally someone like Allen Jackson comes up with something real. I think the music being produced for commercial reasons these days would be more suitably labeled "Redneck Rock" .
