Atlanta Professional Musicians

Connecting Atlanta Musicians

A friend just let me know that Donnie McCormick passed away yesterday.
Donnie was a pioneer Bluesman and one of thee most inovative drummers I have ever seen.
I've known Donnie since I was in my early 20's just getting started on the scene. He was always gracious to me as a young up and comer. His "Chicken Coop" kit was the strangest, coolest sounding rig I had ever heard matched only by the passion of his vocalising.
I will miss Donnie,
Sean O

Oh wow! this is terrible news. Sean was he ill leading up to this? Is that why they had that tribute to him recently? I'm kicking myself for not making it to that event. I'm so outta the loop. Please keep us posted for any further memorial/funeral information. This guy was just amazing, a real showman. RIP Donnie McCormick.

Donnie was one of the MAIN reasons I tried to improve my singing and knew that it could be done. Some musicians in the Atlanta area always frowned on singing drummers, no matter how well they sang. Donnie was the guy who showed us all it could be done and done well. Never cocky, always a generous guy and truly an Atlanta treasure, Donnie will certainly be missed. Rest in peace, Donnie. Thanks for all you did for music in this town.
