Does anyone here own LED stage lighting, sell it or have any opinion of what's the best (most durable) rig?

Hi Jeni..I'm bill WHitford, as my day job I am the assistant chief Engineer for WUPA ch 69 and ch 10 on your cable. we are currently putting in a bunch of LED lighting at Radio V103 for a new show that will be airing in august. The LED units are high in price and it takes a bunch to get the light level of the normal Pars that you can buy for 39.00 a piece..we went with them due to heat issues, size and power.I am sure the price will be coming down..I don't have the info in front of me but I can give you a couple of names to call that can talk to you..

I appreciate your response Bill. I was surprised not to hear many people ring in on this. My drummer is purchaser/logistics manager for HighTech and he says they can't keep them on the shelf. I stopped by Ken Stanton and they got their very first rack (on display) last week (it ran about $500) It was so new, the salesman wasn't quite ready to answer many of my questions (ha!). I'm wanting to see one in the dark and how rich the wash is. I'm also concerned about how fragile they are because the LEDS are exposed and really close to the surface. I'm an equipment destroyer (ha!). I guess the little bulbs are replaceable (probably $10.00 a pop-I hope not!) I have a great set of lights for now that have really held up to my special brand of punishment so I'm just looking around (waiting for those prices to drop)-I really like the pretty colors, low heat, low power, longevity features :-)

Been under them some. They are very bright, produce no heat and the white light will burn out your eye sockets. But you'll be seen! But I don't believe that the LED's are individually replaceable. I would expect them to be soldered in. They'll take a little abuse but I wouldn't push it.

Did they put a nice wash on the band? Anybody we know that has them that
I can talk to? I'm an infamous equipment destroyer....I bet I could shred them after 5 gigs :-) yikes!

Thanks a bunch! I was on a trek to get some and was completely sidelined by the economic Blitzkrieg. I can only dream of them for now (ha!)

Hi Jeni,
I have 2 of the rectangular LED lights. They are great for washing the background with color. No focus for this particular light. I've used them in various configurations.
A: 1 per side against the backdrop with them set to change off of the sounds on stage
B: 1 in front of me, 1 behind me in sinc following their "demo" setting which flows thru different colors.
C; Both in front of me, linked to create the most light on highly lit stages where the backdrop has its own lights.
I bought them one at a time and they dropped from around 200 to about 125 in less than a year. So, they should be very affordable soon. Since you do alot of the solo/duo/trio gigs, I would suggest getting at least 2 to start.
They are intensity adjustable on the individual instrument from 100% down to 25% and you can set specific color on each blending the 3 color choices.
Starting to thunder and lightning here. Gotta shut down the computer to be safe (rather than sorry).
TTYL,
Frank
